The point of this Article is actually to convince the reader that they should in fact choose Godaddy for their hosting & web services. I mean after Godaddy accidentally deleted my server and then couldn’t recover precious website files, even though I was told me that they make a copy of my directory every 4 days.
Godaddy maintains emergency back ups of your server that cycle every 4 days.
It’s not guaranteed. It’s nice to have as a fail safe, but don’t get it twisted, you don’t want to be stuck on the phone waiting to hear back from their techs with the only copies of your files/databases.
I have to say, my clients were really pissed and I was pretty shook. I mean I should have had better back ups and more knowledge about how to manually recover WordPress sites from those back ups. I didn’t have a proper system and I was going to pay for it.
In my defense, I didn’t expect Godaddy to delete my entire server out of nowhere and then not be able to recover my files using their emergency back ups. That’s got to be rare.
I moved my most important project to a new server, and recovered/rebuilt the rest on client’s accounts.
Now I’m not acting like I couldn’t have avoided this
Before they deleted my life’s work out of nowhere I was their biggest advocate. To give some perspective, when I first bought server space in early 2012 I knew absolutely nothing about building websites, but knew inevitably I’d need to put my website online.
There are so many options when it comes to choosing how to build a website. All things considered, this method is the cheapest and quickest way to get up and running. Also since I have chosen this method to build my own client sites, you’ll be able to follow along as I go through the Studiopress themes and customize them to sell products and services for different businesses.
Get The Tools: The Genesis framework for WordPress & Studiopress theme for $99 – $129. If you purchase the theme through my affiliate link it helps fund my tutorials and I’ll enter you into a draw to win a free keyword analysis from the KeywordCLUB.
Follow my current tutorial series for customizing my two favorite themes from Studiopress, News Pro (this website) & Education Pro (for Broadview Ave website).
The WordPress platform is free and I have used it for years. It’s the largest content management system available so you can count on it being updated in the future, as well support from a large community of users.
Free themes are available, but you’ll spend more time trying to get them to look how you want and likely they will lack quality updates. Remember, software that makes money gets updated. Things change and updates are part of the game. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve reported a bug or even left it alone and let the next update solve my problems.
I used to buy a $50 – $100 dollar theme from Themeforest, a popular template marketplace online, but under that model you only get a license to use the theme on one website. With Studiopress you will be able to use the theme as many times you want for the rest of your life.
The KeywordCLUB is where I go to get live. I’ve been playing around with live streaming platforms and feel like using Twitch for this show. I go live at 9:00PM – 10:00PM Mon – Fri, right here on this page or at https://www.twitch.tv/keywordclub
featuring guests who want to talk about keywords, merging podcast style conversation with live group tutorial.
We start at the keywords, but they always lead us off in a variety of areas. For more structured tutorials checkout the Youtube channel.
